Prairie States Mushroom Club Foray Schedule 2019

---------------------------------------------------------

May 4th, Wickiup Learning Center, Linn Co. Iowa

Finally, a nice day after a week of cold rain. The weather was perfect and we had a crowd of at least 50 people looking for morels.

This was not the entire crowd. If you look in the background, you can see several cars entering the property. We went into the woods and found some tiny gray morels near the first good tree we stopped at.

We kept looking and eventually found a tree with a batch of mature yellow morels. There were about 15 nice size beauties.

The cold weather had kept most morels still in the ground. We only found one more location with a few morels, so overall, the morel hunting was not very good. It was, however, a great day for many other reasons: we had a large crowd; we got out into the woods on a nice day; and we found other edibles like inky caps and pheasant back. A great start to the mushroom hunting season.
