June 29th, Swiss Valley Park, near Dubuque Iowa.

Bright sunshine and hot temperatures greeted us at Swiss Valley Park near Dubuque. Most of us had never been to this park before, and it is breathtaking - a huge valley with soaring hills and an incredible view. We met at the nature center then walked a short distance to the mature woods. Here are some of the foray participants:

Our friends from Wisconsin and Illinois did show up but were too late for the photo. Once in the woods, we found a modest amount of fungus. One of the first finds was this nice cluster of Inky caps.

This white jelly fooled me. At first I thought it was a white tree ear like Dave L. had found a week ago, but it was just the common white jelly. They sure are pretty when they are fresh like this cluster.

One of the coolest finds of the day was this Deer mushroom. A bug had made a clear film under the gills, which then caught the pink spores. Here you see the bug trying to repair the film.

Overall, a good day at a beautiful park. We found over 30 species of fungi and slime molds.
