Fungarium!
Fungarium! is a traveling exhibit coordinated by PSMC Treasurer Art McBreen. It all started with the Carnegie Historical Museum in Fairfield where Art volunteered, as he was offered a space to create his own display for the club. Since then, it has traveled to Swiss Valley Nature Center, Hurstville Interpretive Center, Wickiup Hill Learning Center and Central Park Nature Center. Where will it go next?
Where is Fungarium! now?
The exhibit is at Eden Valley Nature Center through August 2026. Fungarium! is free to visit while the building is open. The Nature Center is open Saturdays from 10-2pm or by appointment (call 563-847-7202).
Fungarium’s next stop will be Wapsi River Learning Center in Scott County with a kickoff presentation and foray on August 29. The display will be available to view until November 30 when it will move to Pioneer Ridge Learning Center.
How can I request Fungarium! for my nature center or venue?
Please email us at info@iowamushroom.org to get on our waiting list, or ask any questions not answered here. Spinoff displays are possible when we have extra specimens.
Typical run length is 3-4 months and requires a pre-existing display space. The display consists of up to 6 dozen mostly freeze-dried specimens, plus posters, works of art, mushroom-dyed yarn, etc. Exhibit size can be expanded or reduced as space dictates.
Ideally, kickoff for the exhibit takes place in a single weekend. Installation is 2-4 hours, followed by a next day presentation (1 hr) plus a PSMC-led foray in season (~2 hrs). This could be Fri-Sat or Sat-Sun, but we can work with you to best meet your needs.
